Bridgerton’s Phoebe Dynevor’s fitness secrets are fully BS-free

Phoebe Dynevor is a rare kind of actor. Aside from being impossibly beautiful (scroll on for some inside intel on how her skin is so darned radiant) and stratospherically successful, from a famous acting family, she seems mysteriously like a — dare we say it — normal person.

She’s been in the public eye for years, though her most well-known and certainly most steamy role to date was as Bridgerton’s liberated debutante Daphne (and series 2 has just landed, FYI), yet hasn’t gone any dramatic transformations or undertaken any mad fads. It’s almost as if she’s effortlessly lean and lithe — but we all know that’s rarely the case (even in one’s mid twenties).

We’re no Netflix star, but we imagine filming sex scenes can take some prep — both mentally and physically played — especially when your in-show husband, Simon Basset, is by the *fire emoji* Rége-Jean Page. THAT SPOON.

Granted, it being a Regency era drama, the nakedness is more a risqué flash of leg under a poofy gown, a faint silhouette under a fine nightie or a hint of shoulder under the sheets in a four poster than anything too X-rated.

Aside from the obligatory lockdown at-home workout snaps, her ‘gram is mysteriously fitness-free — so we decided to do some digging and it turns out her healthy lifestyle is all about a no-BS approach.

1. She works out in the morning

Though she’s low-key about what she gets up to, Phoebe mentions her morning workouts in a beauty video for Vogue.

‘I actually don’t wash my face in the morning, unless I’m working out,’ she says, before splashing her face with cold water. Sometimes simple is the best.

2. She walks every day

Often photographed in sportswear, the actor walks every day to help keep anxiety at bay — sometimes with her dog, sometimes with her fellow actor mother Sally Dynevor, always looking chic as heck.

‘You see what it is for your mental health to be in the public eye. I meditate, I have a therapist, I walk every day. There are things I do to ground myself, because it’s quite hectic at the moment,’ she revealed to Harper’s Bazaar.

3. She cycles

To cut back on her emissions and to get moving, she opts to cycle around when she’s not walking — as seen on her ‘gram.

4. She practices meditation

Phoebe is big into Transcendental Meditation (TM), a form of silent repeated mantra meditation which involves practicing a state of relaxed awareness and avoiding distracting thoughts to ease anxiety and promote self-realisation. It was popularized in the mid-fifties by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and made extra-famous by fans, The Beatles.

While TM has been used as a helpful tool by many people, it should be noted that the group has been accused of cultic dynamics by some former adherents, some of whom made up Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s inner circle (the group denies these allegations.)

She shared on her Instagram: ‘2020 has been chaotic to say the least, I don’t think we often realise the effects that it has on our psyche. The best thing I did for myself this year was learning @transcendentalmeditation and knowing that in the shadows of the chaos of our minds there’s a state of pure consciousness, no noise, just being.’

5. She stays active on holiday

As well as cycling in Croatia with her Bridgerton Co-star Sabrina Bartlett, she takes to the slopes every once in a while — both excellent exercises for toning the lower body.

6. She mixes up her workouts

Not one to rave about any one particular exercise, she’s experimented with different types and tempos.

‘I did an intense bootcamp once, which was wild amounts of exercise that I am not sure I was cut out for,’ she told Glamor.

7. She prioritises sleep

While some people take from their time to get to the gym, Phoebe is of the sleep-first frame of mind.

‘Sleep is definitely the best self care ritual, especially with night shoots and early call times,’ she said in a cover interview with Harper’s Bazaar. ‘It also helps to make you feel at your most empowered as it helps you give everything you do 110%. Then if you fail, you can hold your head high knowing you tried your best.’

8. She’s mostly vegan

In an Instagram post about the climate crisis, Phoebe spoke about her predominantly vegan diet, which is known to significantly reduce greenhouse gases compared to a diet that includes meat and dairy.

‘I mostly eat a plant-based diet, but there’s still so much more that I could be doing to help shape the world that we and the next generation will live in,’ she wrote.

Often papped with bottles of water and smoothies, she makes sure she gets her daily recommendation of H20, fruit and veg — which might go some way to explaining her extraordinarily glowy skin.

      We love to see it.
