Aryan’s arrest was BJP ploy for UP polls: Patole | Nagpur News

Nagpur: MPCC chief Nana Patole, who inaugurated the social media camp of Congress on Saturday, told media on the sidelines that Minister Shahrukh Khan’s son Aryan’s arrest was a “pre-planned conspiracy” by Prime Narendra Modi-led BJP government at the center with an eye on Uttar Pradesh polls.
“Being son of a superstar, they knew his (Aryan) arrest would spread the message that Muslims were involved in drug trade. They created a vicious atmosphere surrounding his arrest and won the polls on that basis. From day one Congress maintained that Aryan was innocent. The clean chit to him by the Narcotics Control Bureau has vindicated our stand,” he said.
Big names like guardian minister Nitin Raut, animal husbandry minister Sunil Kedar, relief and rehabilitation minister Vijay Wadettiwar, and others skipped the state-level camp. Maharashtra Congress social media department chairman Vishal Muttemwar, who has organized the event, refused to take TOI’s calls for his comments on absence of many important party netas at the event.
Even former minister Satish Chaturvedi and Anees Ahmed did not attend the meeting. Chaturvedi had attended one camp in Mumbai recently, but skipped this one probably because it was organized by the Muttemwar camp, as per the Congress leaders present there.
As against an anticipated participation of over 325 who were specially invited, hardly 100 turned up at the two-day camp being held at Vanamati in Civil Lines. The program was scheduled from 11am but it started at 1pm as top leaders arrived late.
Former MP and minister Vilas Muttemwar, MLA Vikas Thakre, MLC Abhiji Wanjari, AICC national social media chief Rohan Gupta, AICC national spokesperson Alka Lamba, party’s chief spokesperson in state Atul Londhe, AICC secretary Ramkishan Ojha, MPCC Umakant Agnihotri and others were present.
While reiterating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government was “misusing” Central agencies, Patole said BJP was targeting the innocents. “They are spreading religious hatred and disrupting the communal harmony of the country. They have even put a section of media under their control and their only job is to weaken the Congress. In just eight years in power, the Modi government has sold the country. They are slowly ending the Constitutional framework,” he said.
While refusing to comment on MLA Ravi Rana and his wife Navneet Rana’s visit to the city for reciting Hanuman Chalisa, Patole said they were diverting attention from real issues like rising inflation, unemployment and poverty. “I never leave home without reciting Hanuman Chalisa in the morning. In August every year, I organized Mahaprasad in this regard. Religion is all about faith and I do not advertise my faith. I do not want to give any undue publicity to anyone.”
On the possibility of Priyanka Gandhi contesting the Lok Sabha polls from Maharashtra, the Sakoli MLA said all Congress in the state would welcome her but the high command would take any decision in this regard.
Deliberating on the social media camp, Patole said the BJP spends over Rs40 crore daily on social media where they pay the trollers. “We will not indulge in such cheap exercises. Our social media platform would bring the truth before the public. In this camp, our office-bearers and social media handlers would be provided training on how to make it more effective and reach the maximum number of people,” he said.
The national camp on Sunday may witness the presence of former minister Jayram Ramesh, spokesperson Pawan Khera and Alka Lamba, AICC social media head Rohan Gupta, advisor Sachin Rao and others.
