local doctor races for hearing

Local audiologist Steve Hart will be competing in The Targa Newfoundland, a 1400-mile road rally race in Newfoundland Canada this September. Steve will be a co-driver with his lifelong friend, Tom Megan, who lives on the St Lawrence River. They will be driving Tom’s 1965 Porsche 356 SC which Tom has completely restored over the past two years.

The race is a five-day event around the island of Newfoundland on two lane roads through the seacoast villages. This is an event that touches all the local residents and there are over 300,000 spectators. In a rally race average speed increases as the race progresses and top speeds in the classic car division are often around 80 mph. Tom’s Porsche has a customized turbo diesel engine and we will be using 100% biodiesel fuel that will be made in Ontario NY. This will be the first car ever to compete in the Targa using biodiesel.

Dr. Hart’s endeavor, called the Race for Hearing, will be a fundraiser for the Rochester Chapter of HLAA and for the Finger Lakes Lions Club hearing aid donation program. To date a total of almost $4000 has been pledged to these organizations. Sponsors for this race are Hart Hearing Centers,  Phonak Hearing Systems and Northern Biodiesel.  Anyone that would like to donate can make a check out to either HLAA or Finger Lake Lions Club and mail it to Steve Hart, 468 Titus Ave. Rochester NY 14617.
